Great Grits

The first time I had grits was on a trip with my friend Stella to the famed Mother's on Poydras Street in New Orleans. Being a Northerner, I wasn't quite sure what all the fuss was about. Plus I was a bit put off by the fact that I couldn't get a decent cup of tea anywhere in town and all the coffee had chicory in it, but I digress.

Fast forward a decade. Mr. B is from the south and knows a thing or two about grits, like how you have to fry up country ham and add the fat to the grits. Or how cheese grits are close to godliness.

Being the good woman I am, I would like to master the art of the grit. But being from Queens doesn't exactly make me a natural born grit cooker. Thank God for Ree Drummond!

For those of you who don't know, Ree Drummond is better known as The Pioneer Woman. She has a blog under that name and now a Food Network show as well. Well I love her (not as much as I love Paula, but she's growing on me). So I was very happy to see this recipe on her blog:

Yes, that's right, double pork whammy! Chops AND cheese and bacon in the grits! This might well be the perfect meal for Mr. B, who is as big a fan of the pig as I am. I can't wait to make it when the weather gets just a bit cooler. It seems like the perfect autumnal meal. I'll let you know how it turns out.
